7 refreshing mountain lakes

7 refreshing mountain lakes for warm summer days

Sparkling water surface, clear water in green and blue and a mountain backdrop: this is how our seven mountain lakes entice you to dive in. So pack your swimming trunks and combine water and mountains with us!

When the summer days are once again marked by a lot of heat and sun, only one thing helps: water! But mountains and water, is that even possible? And how does it work! We have plenty of water here in the mountains, so we hiked seven sparkling mountain lakes around the Aadla Chalets for you and dared to jump into the cool water a few times. The best thing about it? You can even do it without breaking a sweat!

Water pleasures with a far-reaching view: Panoramic lake

The ultimate 360-degree panorama pool: the Panorama Lake. The turquoise-blue reservoir is enthroned high up on the Saloberkopf and its location guarantees a boundless view. If the jump into the clear water is a bit too fresh for you, you should definitely pull out your mobile phone: with the striking rocks of the Widderstein in the background, the panorama lake offers a picture-perfect photo motif.

Tip: If you still have some energy left, you should definitely choose the way home via our natural jewel, the Körbersee. As a reward, a delicious Sachertorte cake awaits you there. 😉

The panorama lake can be reached from two sides, whereby the more comfortable option is definitely the ascent with the Steffisalp cable car. From there, a path leads to the "Spitzigen Stein" with reservoir, past the Hochalphütte to the panorama lake. The descent can alternatively be made via the Körbersee. If you want to extend the hike, you can choose the ascent from the Hochtannberg Pass. From there, a wide path leads to the mountain station of the Saloberkopf, where the panorama lake is enthroned.

In and on the water of the natural jewel Körbersee

Conifers gently swaying in the wind, birdsong, the gentle murmur of water - pure nature. And in between, the clinking of dishes and conversations of nature-admiring hotel visitors on the terrace. Road noise? 3 kilometres away. The area around the Körbersee is located in the middle of a nature and water conservation area, which is why the Körbersee can only be reached on foot. However, the area not only attracts with a clear lake with drinking water quality, but also with its plant splendour. The natural palette ranges from alpine roses to imposing fens - possibly also a reason why it was crowned Austria's most beautiful place in 2017. The mountain lake really invites everyone to cool down!

Tip: the Körbersee offers delicious homemade cakes and regional specialities as well as rowing boat hire. Who dares to jump off the rowing boat? Bathing fun guaranteed!

You can hike to the Körbersee from the chalets without a bus or car. If you want to make a round hike out of it, you can continue hiking from the Körbersee in the direction of the Hochtannbergpass, and shortly before the Kalbelesee turn left and hike back home via the "Witele". Alternatively, you can also stroll from the Hochtannbergpass to the Körbersee via the somewhat wider path that is also suitable for prams.

Splashing around at the summit cross

The summit cross in combination with water can be found at the "Spitzigen Stein". You can reach it comfortably with the Steffisalp cable car, from where a panoramic path leads to the large rock with the summit cross in 20 minutes. Once you have reached the top and enjoyed the far-reaching view, it is worth taking a look behind the rock: there, nestled in lush mountain meadows, is a clear reservoir that opens up a magnificent view of the Biberkopf and other surrounding mountain peaks.

Tip: when the midday hunger sets in, a flat trail leads from the Spitzigen Stein to the "Hochalp-Hütte", where regional specialities such as Kaiserschmarren fill hungry bellies.

If you want to get to the lake quickly and without too much effort, use the Steffisalp cable car. Alternatively, the hike can be made more extensive by bypassing the cable car and making the ascent on foot.

Immersion at the foot of the imposing Widderstein

Rough rocks, lush green mountain meadows and a few whistling marmots in between - that's what awaits you at the foot of the Widderstein. And if you keep a very close eye out, you will also discover a mountain lake there. The high alpine lake lies beneath the rough rocks of the Widderstein, hidden in a small cove. Alternatively, if you can only reach up to your toes in the lake, you should lie in wait to watch the marmots - you are welcome to borrow the Aadla binoculars from us!

TipIf all the swimming and marmot-watching is making your stomach growl, you should make your way to the Widdersteinhütte. It is located on the other side of the Widderstein and can be reached from the lake in a short time and without many metres in altitude. Lunch with a view guaranteed!

The starting point is the Hochtannbergpass or the "Hotel Adler" bus stop. Opposite, the trail zigzags through the green meadows to the foot of the Widderstein in about 40 minutes. While at the top one path leads to the right to the Widderstein hut, the other path, which goes even further up, leads towards the lake. At the next fork, the trail flattens out past the Widderstein, whereupon the Hochalpsee hides to the right. Alternatively, you can choose the ascent via the Höferspitze. This is also opposite the bus stop and leads across the meadow through bushes towards Höferspitze. At the first fork, however, the path leads away to the left and crosses the slope past a small alpine hut in the direction of Widderstein, with the lake then on the left.

Biotope bathing in Lake Kalbele

Nestled in moss, surrounded by green shrubs as well as colourful plants and circled by mountain peaks, lies the natural high mountain lake at the Hochtannberg Pass - just a few metres off the Bregenzerwald road. Due to its flora, the Kalbelesee was designated as a biotope worthy of protection - possibly one reason why it is a popular destination for excursions. Especially on warm summer days, the cool mountain water is tempting and can be easily reached by bus or car without breaking a sweat.

Tip: If you still feel the hiking fever after a nice cool down, you can hike comfortably in about 40 minutes past the Kalbelesee to the next natural jewel: to the Körbersee. There, not only the next cool down awaits, but also delicious specialities on the sun terrace of the Berghotel Körbersee!

Just a bus stop or 5-minute drive away is the Kalbelesee lake on the Hochtannbergpass/Salober.

Bathing fun without sweating: Seebachsee

When the days are too hot, the trails too long and the motivation to hike too low, this lake definitely comes into play: the Seebachsee. You can easily make your way to Warth by bus or car, where the lake is only a few metres away from the village square. A new bathing and sunbathing platform with comfortable sunbeds ensure relaxation above the water - brave water rats dare to jump into the cool water from there!

Tip: not only brave bathers cavort in the lake, but also bright ducks and a few cheeky trout, which like to be pampered by children with a few breadcrumbs 😉 If your own stomach suddenly growls during all the feeding, the "Wäldermetzge" is right next door, where snacks fill the empty belly and regional delicacies such as cheese or a few Landjäger are also available.

Past the village square in the direction of Wäldermetzge, a road leads to Seebachsee on the left. This is clearly visible from the road!

Boundless panoramas and sparkling water

Would you rather earn your cool refreshment with a proper hike? Then the Butzensee is just the thing for you! The emerald-green high mountain lake glistens at the foot of the Mohnenfluh peak at 2,124 metres above sea level. Up here, the panorama will make your mountain heart beat faster - and the cold Butzensee water will make it beat faster. 😉

Tip: After this hike and the courageous swim, you really deserve a hearty stop! On the way back, the Kriegeralpe awaits you with hearty natural cuisine, which you can enjoy on the sun terrace with a view of the surrounding mountains.

Take the bus or car to Oberlech - alternatively take the Oberlechbahn. From there the hike starts in the direction of "Kriegeralpe", past the Hasensprungbahn uphill to the Steinmähderbahn mountain station. Past the Steinmähder cable car, a narrow path leads up to the ridge, from which the crystal-clear lake glistens directly out.

Lakes Hike

You want to hike as many lakes as possible at once? Then the lake hike is perfect for you! It combines the reservoir, panorama lake and Körbersee as well as the Kalbelesee as a diligence task for all hiking enthusiasts. And of course there's no shortage of enjoyment and refreshments!

The ascent is effortless with the Steffisalp cable car - and you have plenty of time to look out for marmots, which are particularly fond of this area. From the mountain station, a narrow path leads towards the "Spitziger Stein", which towers prominently on the horizon with a summit cross. Behind it is already the first lake: the reservoir with its magnificent views. After a few panoramic photos and a possible cooling down, continue towards the "Hochalp-Hütte". If your stomach is already rumbling, it will tempt you with delicious specialities such as a fresh Kaiserschmarren. After a snack or a coffee with a view, continue to the panorama lake, which lies directly above the Hochalp hut. If you dare to take the plunge, for everyone else it's time to take out your camera! The turquoise-blue lake in the midst of imposing mountain scenery makes for almost kitschy holiday photos. The tour continues with the best panoramic views over the Salobersattel towards Körbersee. If you've had enough of splashing around, you can explore the lake from above in a rowing boat. In any case, you should not miss the delicious cakes of the Berghotel Körbersee! Especially the Sacher cake makes the moment on the sun terrace not only a treat for the eyes 😉 After the Körbersee, there is the option of descending directly to your chalet. However, if you still have some energy left, the way home via the Kalbelesee is worthwhile. For this, you hike for about 30 minutes in the direction of the Hochtannberg Pass until the natural high-mountain lake lies in front of you. The path to the chalets then leads off to the left in the direction of "Witele", which takes you directly back to your chalet.

Fancy a cool summer in the mountains? Then take a look at our summer packages for a refreshing mountain summer with us at the Aadla Chalets.

Natural jewel Körbersee

Favourite place picturesque Körbersee

It has been our personal favourite place for a long time - now it has also been
officially awarded: The picturesque Körbersee lake in Schröcken is one of the
"most beautiful places in Austria"! This natural jewel is easily accessible from the Aadla Chalets.

In 2017, the Körbersee in Schröcken, picturesquely nestled between rocks, was crowned Austria's "most beautiful place"! From the Aadla Chalets you can hike to this true natural jewel in 30 minutes.

The small mountain lake not far from the Aadla Chalets is obviously not only special for us and our guests. Surrounded by alpine meadows and rocks, the natural jewel Körbersee has cast its spell throughout Austria and was voted the most beautiful place in Austria by the TV viewers of the programme "9 places, 9 treasures" in 2017.

If you also want to succumb to the magic of the landscape around this beautiful place, start at your chalet door and hike in about 30 minutes via a path to the 3.5 ha Körbersee at 1,675 metres.

Once at the top, take a refreshing dip in the summer or go for a ride on the rowing boat - it's worth it!

Here comes a Tip from the Aadla Holiday Fairy: Enjoy a homemade Sachertorte on the terrace of the Berghotel Körbersee - it's worth a little sin!

Romantics take note: A truly magical place awaits you for your picnic by the lake.

The Aadla chalets are right in the middle of hikers' paradise! That's why we have summarised all our hiking offers for you:

Fancy a summer in the mountains? Then take a look at our summer packages, which offer everything from a romantic package to a full load of action for everyone!

Hope to see you soon at Aadla!

Summer action

Flying Fox über Schröcken

Canyoning to Flying Fox

Are the mountains too steep today?
And you went to the open-air swimming pool yesterday? Then you're ready for more action today: There is a wide choice around Schröcken - the choice is yours!

There is a lot to discover in the mountain world around the Aadla Walser Chalets. And yet - sometimes there can be a little more action!

When the mountains are too high, the walking paths too long or the outdoor pool too wet - adrenaline often helps: it's all about the right dose! The providers in Warth-Schröcken offer programmes suitable for children and families, which have the right thing for every action level - of course also for the older and braver ones!

Suitable for young and old is the Adventure Park in Schröcken. In addition to the high ropes course with rope course and rope slides, there is the Flying Fox in the middle of the forest over the river.

Like something out of an adventure book: At the Indiana Jones Tour Voodoo magic makes you brave and with Flying Fox you go over the deep gorge, into a mysterious forest to a silver cave ... shhh!

This 2-hour tour is perfect for families with children and teens aged 7 and up.

For cool families: get into your wetsuit and off you go to the Mini-Canyoning! Equipped with helmet and rope, you practise abseiling, then jump into the cold water: after slides and climbing sections, you go to a waterfall - there you abseil down from 10 metres. Fancy some more?

2 hour tour for families with children and teens from 7 years.

Teen canyoningWith a neoprene suit, helmet and rope, you practise abseiling and then get into the cold water. Slides, climbing sections, through a waterfall... and at the second waterfall you abseil down from 20 metres. Wow!

2-hour tour for families and teens aged 12 and over.

A different kind of landscape! High up, you get adrenaline kicks without getting wet. When the forest and gorge "fly by", you are (hopefully) hanging on a strong rope. At Flying Fox Park you'll whizz down wild gorges 20-90 metres above the ground. If you can take your eyes off the ground as you hurtle down the valley, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view!

A tip from the Aadla holiday fairy: At Children's climbing on Monday afternoons, children from the age of 6 learn how to tie knots, abseil and climb on natural rock.

The Aadla chalets have a heart for families
and the "Family Adventure" offer has lots of action included!

Check out our packages to enjoy bundled action combined with a relaxing stay in a private chalet!

We look forward to seeing you!

Panoramic hikes

Wanderer auf Kuhweide | Sommerurlaub im Bregenzerwald

Hikes in front of a dream panorama

What could be better than hiking to a viewpoint? Well, hiking with a permanent view! There are plenty of panoramic hikes here in Warth-Schröcken: surrounding peaks, mountain lakes or even the villages and church towers in the valley characterise the 360-degree view!

Panoramic hikes

Sounds good? Then you've come to the right place! Our holiday fairy reveals 7 hikes with lots of panoramic views.

Don't forget to look around and enjoy!

The starting point is the Steffisalp cable car, which takes you comfortably up the first few metres of altitude. From the mountain station, turn right towards Spitziger Stein, where the first mountain lake is hidden behind the summit cross. WOW! Blue-green reservoir with a view of the Biberkopf! Then continue towards the Hochalphütte, which is perfect for a lunch or coffee break. Past the hut we head to the second lake: the Panoramasee. The name says it all here! The turquoise-blue mountain lake glistens in front of a magnificent panorama, which is mainly characterised by the Widderstein. Of course, you could always descend again - but if you still have enough power, you should definitely continue over the Salobersattel to the Körbersee. Total panorama! Once you've arrived at the Körbersee, you've earned the homemade cake! From there you can comfortably descend to the chalets.

Duration: to the panorama lake approx. 60 minutes; from the panorama lake to the Körbersee again approx. 60 minutes.

You can start this hike directly from your chalet. Go to the main road and follow the main road down until the pavement ends and a bridge begins - the road down to the right is the right one. Pass Haus Annette and follow the old road for about 15 minutes until you see a turn-off on the left towards Körbersee or Auenfeld. Follow this for about 10 minutes, then a narrower path leads off to the right in the direction of Alpe Felle. You will pass the Gletschermühle (glacier mill), which you should definitely take a look at - a relic from the Ice Age! After crossing the Fellbach stream, you will arrive at Alpe Felle in a few minutes. There you not only have a great view of the village and the surrounding mountains, but also homemade alpine products that you should definitely try! After your break, you will pass the Alpe Felle and head back downhill to the village, from where the hiking bus will take you back to Nesslegg.

Duration: approx. 60 minutes

Longer option: in this slightly longer option, you start your hike from your chalet. Follow the main road down for a few metres, then turn left onto a path that leads to a bridge over the stream. The trail then climbs a little uphill along a narrow path towards the Körbersee lake. Here you can already enjoy panoramic views, which are dominated by the village and the mountain peaks! When you reach the Körbersee, the Berghotel Körbersee is perfect for a delicious break. 😉 Past the Körbersee lake, the trail continues to the Kalbelesee lake and Hochtannbergpass. At the end of the Kalbelesee you can already see the Simmel with the enthroned World Peace Cross! Arrived at the main road, we follow the road to the Hotel Adler, where the ascent to the Simmel is on the right hand side. Once you have reached the Simmel, enjoy the view of the lake and the mountains from the World Peace Cross!

Duration: approx. 130 minutes

Shorter option: start at Hotel Adler, where the ascent to Simmel is on your right. The gravel path leads you past a chapel to the World Peace Cross - view guaranteed.

Duration: approx. 20 minutes

You start this "house circuit" directly from your chalet. There you turn left and come to a large car park. At the end of the car park, a narrow path leads off and you cross the Litzetobel. Then turn right and take the ascent in the direction of Schlössle. At an alpine hut you will come to a fork, where you will have to overcome the short climb to the top one last time, where the reward awaits you: a 360 degree view over the whole of Schröcken and the mountains that surround our village. The trail then continues flat and partly downhill to the Sulzalpe, which is followed by the descent to the Wald parcel. We then keep left in the direction of the Schmitte parcel. Once there, follow the asphalt road upwards until you arrive back at your starting point!

Duration: approx. 75 minutes

The starting point is the mountain station of the Steffisalp cable car, with which you can quickly and comfortably cover a few metres in altitude. At the mountain station on the left, the trail leads in the direction of Bürstegg - here you can already enjoy the far-reaching view of mountain peaks such as the imposing Biberkopf or the view into the village. The trail then leads to Bürstegg, the former highest Walser settlement in Voralberg. After you have marvelled at the old settlement, you continue down the valley with a view. The trail leads you directly to the Bürstegg bus stop, from where the hiking bus takes you back.

Duration: approx. 130 minutes

The starting point here is also the mountain station of the Steffisalp cable car, from which a path leads off to the right in the direction of Spitziger Stein. You should definitely go behind the Spitziger Stein with its summit cross, because a blue-green reservoir with a view of the Biberkopf is hidden there! Then head to the Hochalphütte, which invites you to take a culinary break. 😉 Pass the hut and head uphill to the panorama lake - WOOW! Finished with amazement, you go to the Saloberkopf, continue over the Salobersattel, where you then keep left towards the Auenfelderhütte (here you get the most delicious, homemade dumplings!!). Pass the Auenfelderhütte to the Untere Auenfeldalpe and then continue left to the former Walser settlement Bürstegg. The path leads slightly uphill back to the Steffisalpe mountain station. On this hike you won't be able to stop marvelling at the panoramic views!

Duration: approx. 250 minutes

For an amazing view, one thing is particularly suitable: passes! How good that we have three of them! The bus or the car will take you to Gehren in about 15 minutes, where you hike along the municipal path to the last house. Once there, you start off in the direction of Gehrnerberg to the Koblat Pass. First pass completed! With a view you continue to the second pass: the Gemstelpass. Don't forget to look around! Then it's on to the Widdersteinhütte, where you really deserve a snack (with a good view!). From there you can descend directly or choose the descent over the third pass: the Hochalp Pass. Pass the Hochalpsee and return to the Hochtannbergpass. From there, the bus will take you comfortably back to your chalet.

Duration: approx. 300 minutes

Another Tip from the Aadla Holiday Fairy: The sun terrace of the mountain restaurant offers magnificent views - the best thing to do is rent a deck chair and make yourself comfortable.

Of course, the hut also offers other regional specialities!

Open until October, Tuesday day off

The Rud Alpe towers over Lech, from where you can already spot the hut with its large flower heart! From the village square, walk along the road in the direction of the "Hotel Anemone", where a goods road leads you to the Rud Alpe in a short time.

Tip: the puzzle ring (start Hotel Anemone) or the Arlenzauberweg (start Oberlechbahn mountain station) make children in particular forget that they are actually hiking! Both themed trails lead directly to the Rud Alpe, where a water playground awaits!

Open daily until 18 September 2022

Riddle enthusiasts discover some funny and whimsical stations along the trail from Lech to the Rud-Alpe (with the accompanying workbook), which demand a lot of brain power. The reward at the end is an award, a water playground and a wonderful terrace with hearty food for the hungry.

Important: Please be sure to get the workbook for the riddle rally in advance from the Lech Tourist Office for Euro 5,- or ask the Aadla Holiday Fairy for it. 🙂 Because without the book, the secrets of the puzzle ring remain closed.

Autumn enjoyment in the Bregenzerwald

The evenings are getting cooler, the days shorter and nature shows itself in its most beautiful orange-yellow hues: the golden autumn has arrived. This most colourful season can be enjoyed particularly well in the mountains before winter announces itself with its first snowflakes. The mountain autumn with its special atmosphere can be experienced not only while hiking - autumn is also a true culinary delight here in the mountains!

Hiking autumn culinary delights

But you can't decide whether you want to hike in the mountains or enjoy autumn on your tongue? Then our holiday fairy has the perfect combination for you: Hiking with Kaiserschmarren and 360-degree mountain panorama!

The first few metres of altitude can be comfortably negotiated with the Steffisalp cable car, from where the hike to the Hochalphütte starts. After about 15 minutes, you should definitely enjoy the view at the Spitzigen Stein - and also take a look behind: there is the blue-green reservoir, which opens up a panoramic view of the Biberkopf. After about 20 minutes you reach the Hochalphütte, where Kaiserschmarren, Heidelbeerschmarren and other usual suspects provide culinary delights. With enough energy, you should definitely make a detour to the panorama lake (approx. 15-20 minutes), which is enthroned on the Salobersattel and glistens in turquoise-blue colours in front of the imposing Widderstein.

Tip: On Saturday evenings, the Hochalp hut offers its culinary highlight "hot stone", which is a real treat for the palate! Dips and hearty side dishes are served - and you can grill various types of meat and fish as well as prawns (vegetarian also possible) to your heart's content on the pre-heated natural stone. The train will take you up comfortably until 5 pm, and you can walk back down comfortably - digestion walk included. 😉
